Forecast for Ruidera |
On the borders of the Albacete and Ciudad Real provinces, and in the middle of the vast Campo de Montiel, we come across, almost without warning, an oasis of water and flora; the Lagunas de Ruidera Nature Reserve, where at its highest point, the Cabeza de San Pedro, there are the Rochafrida Castle and the Montesinos Cave.
In an area of 4000 hectares there are sixteen lagoons which gradually form waterfalls and streams which start at the first springs which gush forth from the Blanca lagoon until they reach the lower lagoons and the Peñarroya Marsh. In spring the exuberant colour of an abundant and varied flora, receives countless aquatic birds. The water reaches its maximum current during this period and flows from one lagoon to another, in some cases forming small waterfalls.
